臺灣特有常綠針葉喬木，是冰河時期留存至今的孑遺植物，具有保育價值。木材品質優良，與臺灣扁柏、紅檜、臺灣杉、香杉並稱為臺灣針葉五木。分佈於臺灣全島，在平地也廣泛種植而且生長良好，植株型態優美可作為庭園景觀或行道樹；材質細密，因為顏色較黃俗稱黃肉仔，散發清新木香，還能抗白蟻蛀蝕，是良好的建築及家具材料。

The evergreen coniferous tree is endemic to Taiwan. Taiwan Incense Cedar is a relict plant that has survived the Ice Age and has a high value of conservation. Owing to the quality wood, it is listed in “Taiwan coniferous five trees” together with Taiwan cypress, Taiwan Red Cypress, TaiwaniaCryptomerioides, and Luanta Fir. It is widely distributed in the island of Taiwan, also commonly planted on flat land and grows well. Posing an elegant tree shape, the plant can be used as garden landscape or street trees; the wood is fine-textured and relatively yellow, it’s also known as “yellow meat”. The wood emits a fresh fragrance and also can repel termites, highly valued as a quality material of construction and furniture.

臺灣特有種，常綠針葉大喬木，樹形長錐形，樹皮紅褐色，小枝扁平且節間長。葉為扁平狀，表面光滑有光澤，革質。雌雄同株，毯果長橢圓形，種子卵形有翅。肖楠發芽時有近十枚線形子葉，後再長出鱗狀本葉。

Taiwan endemic evergreen coniferous large trees. The tree is conical in shape with reddish-brown bark and flat branchlets with long internodes. The leaves are flat, leathery, smooth and shiny on the surface. Monoecious, the cones are oblong, and bear ovate winged seeds. The plant develops nearly ten linear cotyledons when germinated, and then grows scaly leaves.

全日照溫暖至冷涼環境，高濕度可以促進生長。在中性至酸性且排水良好的土壤生長良好。通常不需要修剪。以種子繁殖為主，亦可用扦插及高壓法繁殖。

The plant enjoys full-sun, warm to cool environments, high humidity can promote the growth. Grown well in neutral to acidic and well drained soils. Trimming not required. Propagated mostly by seeding, also by cutting and air layering.

樹形優美，葉色深綠，可做庭園景觀樹或行道樹。木材細密，抗白蟻蛀蝕，常被用為建築、家具、棺木、雕刻及裝飾材。

The tree is shaped beautifully with dark green leaves, and suitable for use as a garden landscape tree or a street tree. The timber is fine-textured and termite-resistant, often used in construction, furniture, caskets engraving and as decorative materials.
