莢蒾屬常綠灌木，分佈臺灣中海拔山區與中國湖南、廣西。小枝細長，帶紫色而被星狀毛。單葉，對生，被毛及溝紋，橢圓狀披針形或橢圓形，葉基銳形，葉尖銳形，厚紙質至革質，尖突狀鋸齒緣。聚繖花序，頂生。花冠呈白色壺形。花期3~5月。核果，卵形，熟時由綠轉黃再轉紅。種子近三稜形，其中一面有一縱溝。

An evergreen shrub in the genus Viburnum, distributed in the middle altitude mountainous areas of Taiwan, Hunan and Guangxi province in China. Branchlets are slender, purple with stellate hairs. Single leaves, opposite, with villi and grooves, in elliptic lanceolate or elliptic shape, both base and apex are acute, thickly papery to leathery, serrated margin. Cyme terminal, corolla shaped a white pot. Flowering from March to May. Drupes are ovate, turn from green to yellow, and red when mature. The seeds are like triangular prism with one vertical groove on one side.

天然分佈生長在多石灌叢中及山谷溪澗旁。喜歡充足陽光，微濕潤環境。繁殖使用扦插、播種法。

The plant is often grown in stony shrubs along valley creeks, and prefer the environments with enough sunshine and moisture. Propagated by cutting and seeding.

生長強健，修剪後容易發芽生長，是灌叢或綠籬的優良樹種。葉片光亮，經修剪後可以更緻密美觀，適合栽培成圓球形等整形樹。具觀花、觀果價值，果實可以誘鳥。

The plant is hard and vigorous, easy to germinate after pruning, an excellent tree species as shrubs or hedges. The glossy foliage will become denser and more beautiful after pruning, suitable to be trimmed into spherical or other shapes of topiary trees. Flowers and fruits are both ornamental and the fruits can attract birds to visit.
