樟屬常綠大喬木，臺灣特有種。樹高可達30m，樹皮茶褐色，粗糙，常有縱裂；小枝條帶黃綠色。葉卵形、長橢圓形、闊橢圓形或倒卵形，薄革質，全緣，表面光滑有光澤。花小呈乳白色，聚繖花序，頂生或腋生。果略呈扁球形，熟時由綠轉為紫黑色；種子有硬殼，呈黑褐色。

An evergreen large tree in the genus Cinnamomum, endemic to Taiwan. The tree can reach 30m in height, the bark is brown, coarse and often vertically fissured. Branchlets yellow-green. Leaves ovate, oblong, broadly elliptic or obovate, thinly leathery, entire margin, smooth and shiny. Cymes terminal or axillary, flowers small and milky white. The fruit is slightly oblate and turns from green to purple-black when mature; the seed has a hard shell and appears dark brown.

全日照溫暖環境，濕度高可以促進生長。栽培地需土壤深厚、富含有機質且排水良好的山坡或平地。可扦插繁殖，但以種子繁殖的苗木生長較佳。

The plant favors full-sun and warm environments and high humidity can promote the growth. The ideal plantation locations are hillsides or flatlands which have deep soil, containing rich organic matter and good drainage. It can be propagated by cutting, but seeding method is advised to promote the growth.

木材具有芳香味，不易腐朽蟲蛀，材質細緻且加工容易，是優良用材，可供建築、傢俱、雕刻用，是臺灣闊葉五木之一。枝葉可提煉牛樟精油。木材段木可培育牛樟芝。

The timber has great properties such as pleasant scent, resistance to decay and worms, closely-grained texture and easy processing, making it an excellent material for building, furniture making and engraving. It is one of top five Taiwan's broad-leaved trees. The branches and leaves can be used to extract essential oil and the logs can be used to cultivate Antrodia cinnamomea.
