六角柱屬多肉質灌木，原產巴西至阿根廷乾燥地區，株高0.9~1.2m。深綠色莖直徑約15cm，外表有薄白粉，3~8條稜。稜上刺座有1支長約5cm的中刺，側刺4~7支放射狀排列。花開於莖的上部，喇叭形花長25cm，萼筒綠色，外層花瓣紅色，內層白色，花徑約15cm。夜晚開花僅一夜的壽命，開花期夏季。

A succulent shrub in the genus Cereus, native from Brazil to the arid region of Argentina. The plant is 0.9~1.2m tall. The dark green stem is 15cm in diameter and covered by a thin layer of whitish powder on the outer skin. It produces 3 to 8 ribs with one 5cm central spine and 4-7 radial spines in the areole. The flower blooms on the upper part of the stem, trumpet-shaped and 25cm long. Green calyx tube, red outer petals and white inner petals flower about 15cm in diameter. The flowers open at night and only last for one night. Flowering in summer.

栽培：全日照溫暖至冷涼環境，因植株高大質量重，栽培介質須有足夠重量以支撐植株，可使用砂質壤土、赤玉土混合碎石種植。定植後不須常澆水。每季施用一次長效性綜合肥料。繁殖使用播種、扦插法。

Suitable for full-sun, warm to cool environments. Because the plant is tall and heavy, the cultivation medium must be heavy enough to buttress the plant. The cultivated medium can be a mix of sandy loam, red earth soil and mixed gravel. It doesn’t require frequent watering after replanting. Apply long-active compound fertilizers once a season. Propagated by seeding and cutting.

幼株可以用盆栽單植，生長超過30cm時應使用陶、瓦盆等較重的容器種植以免倒伏。大株適合直接露地栽培於庭園或用盆徑2呎以上的大盆器種植，作為沙漠造景主角。

The seedlings can be planted alone in pots, but they should be planted in heavier containers such as pottery and porcelain pots to prevent collapsing when growing up to 30cm. The adult plant is better to be planted in open fields in gardens or in large pots more than 2 feet in diameter as a feature plant in a desert-like landscape.
