毛柱屬灌木形仙人掌，原產巴西。樹高0.5~4m，成株有開展的分枝。莖直徑4~9cm，外皮橄欖綠有時覆有蠟粉，8~15條稜。刺座白色有長毛；中刺1~3支，長1~13cm；側刺7~9支；新生刺黃色至紅色，後轉為棕色至黑色。花苞被白色長毛包覆。漏斗形花白色，直徑2.5~6cm。

A shrubby cactus of the genus Pilosocereus, native to Brazil. Tree height 0.5 – 4 m, adult plants extensively branched. Stem 4-9 cm in diameter, olive green, occasionally wax powdered, 8-15 ribs. Areoles white, with long hairs; 1-3 central spines, 1-13 cm long; 7-9 radials; new spines yellow to red, then turning brown to black. Flower buds covered with white long hairs. Flowers funnel-shaped, white, 2.5-6 cm in diameter.

栽培：全日照通風環境下可生長良好。為了防止爛根等情形，需採用排水透氣的介質。高溫期生長，可觀察介質乾就澆水；低溫期休眠，可節水避免根部腐爛。

The plants thrive in full sun and airy conditions. Use draining and breathable soil to avoid root rotting and other problems. As a summer grower, it requires watering when the soil appears dry and cutting down water use to avoid root rotting when it goes dormant in cold seasons.

給人印象中的經典仙人掌圖案造型，但是刺長且硬，具有相當的危險性，因此並非普及的種類。大多種植於植物園或多肉植物主題花園等場域。
