羊耳蒜屬多年生草本，原產喜馬拉雅山山麓以及中南半島，臺灣亦有分布。地生蘭。株高15~25cm。肉質莖圓柱狀，直徑可達1cm。斜歪橢圓形、卵狀橢圓形或卵狀長圓形葉3~6枚，長9~17cm、寬3.5~10cm。總狀花序，開花數可達20朵以上，花深紫紅色，線形花瓣與萼瓣窄小，橢圓形唇瓣寬大，寬幅約1cm，開花期春夏之際。

A perennial herb in the genus Liparis, native to the foothills of the Himalayas and the Indochina Peninsula, also distributed in Taiwan. The terrestrial orchid is 15~25cm tall, with cylindrical fleshy stems up to 1 cm in diameter. Leaves 3~6, oblique ellipse, ovate ellipse or ovate oblong in shape, 9~17cm long and 3.5~10cm wide. Racemes, more than 20 flowers in each inflorescence, dark purple-red. The linear petals and calyx petals are narrow while the oval labellum petals are about 1cm wide. Flowering from late spring to early summer.

半日照溫暖環境，屬地生蘭，栽培介質以壤土混合腐葉土、泥炭土等材料以增加有機質。介質略乾就澆水。春、秋兩季施用一次長效性綜合肥料。繁殖使用分株法。

The terrestrial orchid thrives in a warm and partial-sun environment and prefers media such as loam mixed with mulch and peat soil to increase organic matter. Water once the soil slightly dries. Apply a slow-release compound fertilizer once in spring and autumn. Propagated by division.

生長強健、容易開花，適合做為遮蔭地的地被植物使用，在建築遮蔭處與中庭等場域能有良好表現。花形花色奇特，在常見的蘭花中特立獨行。園藝選育斑葉品種，更增觀賞價值。

The hardy plant is easy to bloom and is an excellent ground cover plant for shady spaces, especially in building shades and atriums. The peculiar shape and unique color of the flowers is distinctive among the common orchids. Cultivars with variegated foliage are bred to increase the ornamental value.
