石杉屬多年生草本，廣佈於馬達加斯加往東至大洋洲的熱帶氣候區；臺灣亦有分佈，常著生於潮濕森林的樹幹上。具有披針形的營養葉，多回二叉分枝，莖幼時直立或向上生長，老莖則下垂。莖較小垂枝石松粗大，可作為區別。

A perennial herb in the genus Huperzia, widely distributed in the tropical regions from Madagascar to Oceania, and also found in Taiwan, often grown on the trunk of a moist forest.Vegetative fronds lanceolate, dichotomously branched, stems erect or growing upright when young, while old stems drooping. Its stem is thicker than that of Huperzia salvinioides (Herter) Holub which is a distinctive feature.

半日照溫暖環境下生長良好，一般採用垂吊式種植或附生在蛇木板。對空氣濕度及通風要求比較高，環境悶熱、潮濕的時候需要注意是否發生爛根的情形。

It grows well in a partial-sun and warm environment, often planted on a hanging basket or epiphytic on a mounted tree fern board. Highly demanding on the air humidity and ventilation, the root is easily rotten in sultry and humid weather.

造型特殊，切合熱帶雨林植物流行風潮，可應用在居家綠美化栽培，模仿自然森林造景。枝條優美，常出現在花藝競賽，具有畫龍點睛的效果。

Valued for the unique shape, it’s now a popular tropical rainforest houseplant used for home greening to mimic natural forest landscape. The elegant branches are often used in floral art competitions as an accent plant.
