櫻屬落葉喬木，原產日本。樹皮灰色，小枝淡紫褐色，柔軟下垂如垂柳。葉片橢圓卵形或倒卵形，上面深綠色，下面淡綠色。花序繖形總狀，總梗極短，有花3~4朵，先葉開放；花瓣白色或粉紅色，橢圓卵形。花期4月。核果近球形，熟時紫黑色。

A deciduous tree in the genus Prunus, native to Japan. Bark gray, twigs pale purple-brown, soft and drooping like weeping willow. Leaves oval-ovate or obovate, dark green above and pale green below. Umbels, peduncle extremely short, with 3 to 4 flowers, emerging before leaves; petals white or pink, oval and ovate in shape. Flowering in April. Drupes nearly spherical, purple-black when ripe.

全日照溫暖至冷涼環境，土壤需排水良好且富含有機質。根系分佈淺，不耐旱、不抗風，需慎選種植位置。繁殖用嫁接法，一般用山櫻花當砧木。

It grows in full-sun, warm to cold environments, and prefers well-drained soils rich in organic matter. The root system is shallow and not tolerant to drought and wind, therefore, the planting site needs to be selected carefully. Propagation is by grafting, typically using Taiwan Cherry as the rootstock.

樹姿柔美，可作庭園景觀樹、行道樹。花與果可食用及誘鳥。

With elegant tree shape, it’s a common garden ornamental tree and street tree. The flowers and fruits are edible and attractive to birds.
