藤黃屬常綠喬木，原產菲律賓、臺灣及琉球群島。樹高可達20m，樹幹直立，分枝旺盛，枝條角度狹小，樹冠圓錐形。樹皮黑褐色，嫩枝綠色。對生橢圓形厚革質葉片，葉長10~20cm，葉寬5~8cm，葉面光滑。雌雄異株，花多朵叢生於葉腋，花淺黃色有花瓣5枚，花徑約1cm。球形漿果黃色，直徑2~5cm，有類似瓦斯的氣味。

An evergreen tree in the genus Garcinia, native to the Philippines, Taiwan and the Ryukyu Islands. Tree height up to 20 m, trunk erect and much branched. Branches narrow-angled and crown conical. Bark dark brown and shoots green. Leaves opposite, oval, thick and leathery, 10-20 cm long and 5-8 cm wide, blade surface smooth. Dioecious, flowers clustered in the leaf axils. Flowers pale yellow with 5 petals. and a flower diameter of about 1 cm. The spherical berry is yellow, 2-5 cm across, with a gas-like scent.

適合全日照或半日照溫暖環境，枝葉硬實、根系發達，可抗強風。抗旱性強，根系忌潮濕積水，土壤可用排水良好的砂質壤土。樹形端正，一般不需要修剪，或僅修剪樹冠內的枯枝。每年施用1~2次長效性綜合肥料。繁殖採播種法。

It suitably grows in warm environments with full sun or partial-sun. It can withstand strong wind because of the stiff branches and leaves and well-developed roots. With strong tolerance to drought, the roots don’t like damp soils; preferably well-drained sandy loam. The tree shape is upright and generally does not require pruning, except for those the dead branches. Apply long-active compound fertilizers 1 or 2 times per year. Propagated by seeds.

樹冠較窄小，樹形優美，葉片渾圓樸實，適合單株或多株叢植、列植於空間較小的庭園或作為行道樹使用，也可以利用大型盆栽種植。枝葉不易燃燒，昔時琉球民居常列植於房舍間，作為防風與防火林使用。

Valued for the compact crown, beautiful tree shape and rounded blades, it’s suitable to be planted individually, in clusters or rows in a smaller garden; as a street tree or a large potted plant. The branches and leaves are less flammable, the Ryukyu residents used to plant the tree around the house as windbreak and fireproof forest.
