嘉寶果屬常綠喬木或灌木，原產巴西。對生橢圓形葉，新葉淺綠或泛紅色。花開於樹幹上，白色花微小。紫黑色漿果，形似葡萄而得名。開花期不定，以春秋兩季開花最盛，臺灣每年可以開花期結實約4次。

An evergreen tree or shrub in the genus Myrciaria, native to Brazil. Leaves opposite and oval, new leaves pale green or reddish. Flowers produced on the trunk, white and tiny. Berries purplish black and grape-like which gives rise to its Chinese common name. Flowering sporadically, but most abundant in spring and autumn. Taiwan varieties can bear fruits about 4 times a year.

適合全日照溫暖環境。高溫高濕度可以促進生長，喜好微酸性土壤。一般不太需要修剪，可修除樹冠內太密的不良枝。繁殖採用播種、嫁接及扦插法。

果實甜美多汁，風味與造型極似葡萄，唯採收後果實會因後熟作用迅速發酵，致使市場上少見販售。果實可鮮食或製作果汁、果酒、果醬與酵素。樹形姿態優美、葉片細緻密滿，適合作為庭園樹與列植作為綠籬使用。兼具賞葉與賞果的功效。

The fruits taste sweet and juicy like grapes, but the fresh fruit may begin to ferment 3 to 4 days after harvest, they are rarely sold in the market as a fresh fruit, instead, they commonly used to make juices, fruit wines, jams, and enzymes. Value for the elegant tree shape and dense foliage, they are suitable for the use as garden trees or being planted in rows as hedges for people to enjoy the foliage and fruits.
