原產於臺灣、琉球及中國南方各省的常綠灌木，常見於較溼潤的低海拔山區。枝條柔軟容易四散生長，春季在莖頂開花，多朵花聚集成球，外緣的花一朵朵像白蝴蝶，這些其實是沒有生殖能力的裝飾花，主要用來吸引昆蟲；真正能授粉的花朵則是位於中間的淺黃色小花。會稱為八仙花是因為同類植物中，有的裝飾花常常為8朵，美其名為八仙。

Chinese Hydrangea is an evergreen shrub native to Taiwan, Ryukyu and southern China, commonly found in relatively humid low-altitude mountainous areas. The branches are soft and easily spreading. In spring, the flowers bloom on the end of stem and gather into balls, those on the outer edge resemble white butt erflies which are actually non-reproductive decorated flowers mainly used to attract insects while the fertile flowers are the small light yellow flowers in the center. There are often 8 decorative flowers in the same kind of plants, hence it is named the Eight Immortals in Chinese.

八仙花屬常綠灌木，原產臺灣、琉球及中國長江以南各省。嫩莖紅褐色或紫褐色，枝條柔軟纖細，容易四散生長，株高0.5~2m。對生葉片狹橢圓形，葉長6~12cm，寬2~4cm。聚繖花序開自莖頂，直徑10~15cm，花序四周不孕花有3~4片白色橢圓形至卵圓形萼片；萼片長寬1~3cm，邊緣平滑或有疏齒。孕性花淺黃色，位於花序中間，花徑僅約0.5cm。開花期春夏之際。

An evergreen shrub in the genus Hydrangea, native to Taiwan, Ryukyu, and south of the Yangtze River in China. Shoots reddish-brown or purple-brown, branches soft and slender, easily spreading, plant height 0.5-2 m. Leaves opposite, narrowly oval, 6-12 cm long and 2-4 cm wide. Cymes terminal, 10-15 cm across. Infertile flowers surrounding the inflorescence with 3-4 white oval or ovate sepals; sepals 1-3 cm long and wide, edge smooth or with sparse teeth. Fertile flowers pale yellow, located in the center, only about 0.5 cm across. Flowering between spring and summer.

適合半日照且高濕度環境。介質使用富含有機的壤土。不耐旱。春至秋季每季施用一次長效性肥料。如果枝條散亂，可以於冬季進行強剪。繁殖使用扦插法。

It suitably grows in partial-sun and highly humid environments and prefers growing in organic rich loam. Not drought-tolerant. Apply long-active fertilizer once a season from spring to autumn. Hard pruning for the scattered branches is suggested in the winter. Propagated by cuttings

花萼遠看似白蝶翩翩飛舞，適合在庭園的樹蔭下、中庭、牆角的遮陰處種植，可營造生態野趣使用。

The calyx resembles white butterflies from a distance, suitably grown in the shades of gardens, atriums, and outdoor wall corners to create the feel of wilderness.
