楓屬落葉喬木，園藝品種。對生掌狀深裂葉；裂片5~9．裂深至葉基，裂片長卵形或披針形，葉緣銳鋸齒。春、秋季葉紅色，夏季葉紫紅色，嫩葉紅色，老葉終年紫紅色，弱光下葉片會偏綠。繖房花序，頂生，兩性花。翅果2枚，排成人字型。

A deciduous tree in the genus Acer. Purple Maple is a horticultural cultivar. Leaves opposite, palmate, with 5-9 deep lobes split from the leaf base, lobes long oval or lanceolate, margin with sharp teeth. Leaves red in spring and autumn, purplish red in summer. New leaves tender red, and old leaves purplish red all year round. Leaves turn green when growing in dim light. Corymb terminal and bisexual. Fruits are 2 samaras, arranged in herringbones.

性喜濕潤、溫暖的氣候和涼爽的環境，較耐陰、耐寒，對土壤要求不嚴。適宜在肥沃、富含腐植質的酸性或中性砂壤土中生長，不耐水澇。在高溫乾燥、烈日照射、盆土過乾或積水、強風處、空氣污染等環境中都會造成葉尖焦枯或卷葉。繁殖可用播種、扦插、壓條法及嫁接法。

It prefers humid, warm to cool environments, moderately tolerant to shade and cold, and not picky on soils but preferably fertile, richly humic, acidic or neutral sandy loams, and averse to waterlogging. The leaves are easily scorched and curled with heat, drought, direct sun, over-dry or over-wet potting soils, strong wind, and air pollution. Propagated by seeds, cuttings, layering and grafting.
