烏桕屬落葉喬木，廣泛分佈南亞至東亞熱帶及亞熱帶地區。樹高可超過15m，嫩枝、葉具有乳汁。樹皮深灰色有縱裂紋，枝幹開展。互生菱形葉，葉長3~8cm，葉寬3~9cm，葉色嫩綠，冬季變色後落葉。雌雄異花同株。總狀花序自枝端伸出。花綠色，微小不容易觀察。蒴果球形，成熟後開裂露出具有白色臘質假種皮的種子。開花期夏季，結果期秋季。

A deciduous tree in the genus Sapium, widely distributed in subtropical and subtropical regions from southern Asia to eastern Asia. Tree height up to 15 m, shoots and leaves secreting milk. Bark dark gray with longitudinal cracks and spreading branches. Leaves alternate and rhombic, 3-8 cm long and 3-9 cm wide, leaf color tender green, deciduous after changing color in winter. Monoecious, racemes protruding from the branch tips. Flowers green, tiny and inconspicuous. Capsules spherical and dehiscent after maturing to reveal seeds with white waxy arils. Flowering in summer and fruiting in autumn.

適合全日照環境，根部不耐積水。春至秋季每季施用一次長效性肥料。冬季落葉期可修剪交叉、細弱的不良枝。繁殖採用播種法為主。

It suitably grows in full-sun environments and doesn’t like water logged in the roots. Apply long-active fertilizers once a season from spring to autumn. Prune the crossing and weak branches during winter deciduous period. Mainly propagated by seeds.

秋冬季葉色變紅，可呈現四季不同的變化，適合作為行道樹或庭園樹。葉片可製作黑色染料，假種皮是優質的蠟燭原料，種子可榨油製作塗料或肥皂。木材白色，紋理細緻，是製作家俱、器具及細木工的良材。

With red leaves in autumn and winter, the tree displays different looks in each season; suitable for the use as street trees or garden trees. The leaves can be used to made black dye; the aril is a high-quality raw material for making candles; the seeds can be pressed to make paint or soap. The white-colored and densely-grained wood is a great material used for furniture, utensils and joinery.
