安石榴屬落葉灌木或小喬木，原產伊朗。披針形葉對生，葉面光亮。花色紅，本品種是花蕊瓣化的園藝品種，花徑可達8cm，花瓣大且邊緣有皺摺，花形如牡丹華貴。因為雌雄蕊突變，因此難以授粉結果。

A deciduous shrub or small tree in the genus Punica, native to Iran. Leaves opposite, lanceolate and glossy. Flowers red. This is a cultivar with stamen turning to petals. Flowers up to 8 cm across. Petals large and wrinkled at the margin, flower shape is magnificent as peony. It’s difficult to pollinate and bear fruits because the pistils and stamens are modified.

種植於全日照環境，介質排水要好，砂礫地亦可種植。修剪於落葉期，以過密枝、徒長枝等不良枝為主。夏季要注意簑衣蟲危害。繁殖使用播種、嫁接、空中壓條與扦插法。

It thrives in a full sun condition, well-drained medium and also can grow in gravel ground. Perform pruning during the deciduous period, mainly inferior branches such as overdense branches and water sprouts. Pay attention to the damage of chlamydia in summer. Propagated by seeds, grafting, air layering and cuttings methods.

俗云：「五月石榴紅似火」，重瓣品種花色美豔，是夏季的代表花，農曆五月稱榴月。適合單株種植作為庭園的主題樹或於公園叢植、列植。可使用盆器種植於居家環境，或修剪雕塑為盆景欣賞。
