沿階草屬多年生草本，原產東亞。地下有根莖，莖短縮。根出葉叢生狀；葉狹線形，全緣，葉表面略粗糙，葉背多少帶白粉狀，葉面綠色有白色縱紋，葉鞘膜質。總狀花序，花莖直立，多高於葉片；花小，白色。蒴果紫黑色，內含種子一粒。

A perennial herb in the genus Ophiopogon, native to East Asia. Rhizomes short and producing tufted radical leaves; leaves narrow-linear, entire, slightly coarse above and white powdery; blade green with white longitudinal stripes, leaf sheath membranous. Racemes, flower stem erect, usually higher than the leaves; flowers small, white. Capsules purple-black, containing one seed.

The plant grows in full sun or partial sun, with low requirements for soil but wet soil is preferred. Spray water on the blade upper surface and surroundings to increase the relative humidity of the air. Propagated from seeds or ramets.
