穿鞘花屬多年生草本，臺灣原生，中國華南各省亦有分佈。莖基部匍匐，上部直立。葉簇生於莖的上半部，倒披針形或卵狀倒披針形，波狀緣；葉鞘圓筒形，呈管狀包住莖部。聚繖花序狀從葉腋萌生「穿鞘而出」，花瓣白色。蒴果橢圓形，熟後開裂。種子具有橘紅色的肉質假種皮。

A perennial herb in the genus Amischotolype, native to Taiwan and also distributed in South China. Stem base creeping, upper erect. Leaves clustered in the upper part of stem, oblanceolate or ovate oblanceolate, margin undulate; leaf sheath cylindrical, tubular, and wrapping the stem. Cymes axillary and emerging "through the sheath", petals white. Capsules oval, dehiscent when ripe. Seeds with orange-red fleshy aril.

喜半日照溫暖、濕潤的環境，排水良好富含有機質的壤土或培養土。介質乾就澆水。以種子或扦插繁殖。

The plant grows in a warm and humid environment with partial sun and prefers growing in organic-rich loam or potting soil with good drainage. Water when the medium is dried. Propagated from seeds or cuttings.

分佈臺灣各地山區，可作遮蔭地的地被植物。全草可藥用，民間作為利尿、袪濕、活血，治風濕痛、跌打損傷、尿路感染等。

The plant spreads in the mountainous areas of Taiwan, suitably grown as groundcover. The whole plant can be used as traditional medicine like diuretic, to remove dampness, activate blood circulation, and treat rheumatism, bruises, urinary tract infections and so on.
