茶馬椰子屬常綠灌木，原產墨西哥、瓜地馬拉。莖幹直立，單幹不分枝或從莖基部叢生。葉叢生莖頂，一回羽狀複葉。穗狀花序腋生，花黃色，雌雄異株，雄花序稍直立，雌花序稍下垂，開花期春季。漿果狀核果，熟時紫黑色，結果期秋季。
