酒瓶椰子屬常綠喬木，原產模里西斯。幹上下較窄，中央粗而形似酒瓶，有明顯環狀葉痕。羽狀複葉，披針形小葉40~60對，葉柄紅褐色，葉鞘圓桶狀。雌雄異花，肉穗花序。果成熟呈金黃色，開花至果實成熟需18個月。種子橢圓形。

An evergreen tree in the genus Hyophorbe, native to Mauritius. Stems narrow at the top and bottom and swollen in the middle, resembling wine bottles, with obvious circular leaf marks. Pinnate compound leaves, leaflets lanceolate, arranged in 40 to 60 pairs, petiole reddish brown, leaf sheath barrel-shaped. Monoecious, spadix. The fruit matures golden yellow and usually takes 18 months from flowering to fruit maturity. Seeds oval.

性喜全日照、溫暖濕潤環境。生長緩慢，生性強健但不耐寒。以種子繁殖。

The plant normally grows in full sun, warm and humid environments. Slow growth, robust but not cold hardy. Reproduced from seeds.

可做作園景觀樹、大型盆栽、種子幼苗小品盆栽。種子堅硬，象牙質，可作飾品。果實可榨油，治疥癬、凍瘡。

Grown as garden ornament trees, large potted plants, potted seedlings and small potted plants. The hard seeds have ivory texture, suitably used as ornaments. The fruits can be pressed for the oil which can cure scabs and frostbites.
