蘇鐵屬常綠灌木，原產中國華南、日本南部至琉球群島。幼株樹幹如球莖，成樹樹幹圓柱形。羽狀葉頂生，裂片達100對以上，葉柄兩側有齒狀刺。雌雄異株，雄毬花柱狀，雌毬花形似包心菜。橙紅色果實扁卵形。開花春至夏季。
