猩猩椰子屬常綠灌木，原產南東南亞。莖幹直立叢生緊密。羽狀複葉向上生長，葉表面深綠色，背面灰綠色，葉鞘與葉柄猩紅色。穗狀花序腋生，雌雄同株異花，花綠色。核果橢圓形，成熟時為藍黑色。

An evergreen shrub in the genus Cyrtostachys, native to South East Asia. Stems erect and densely tufted. The pinnate compound leaves grow upward, the leaf surface is dark green, and gray-green on the back; leaf sheath and petiole scarlet. Spikes axillary, monoecious, flowers green. Drupe oval, blue-black when mature.

喜光照充足或半日照環境，高溫、高濕能促進生長，喜富含有機質、潮濕及排水良好的弱鹼性土壤，不耐低溫和乾旱。在臺灣冬季低溫生長緩慢且葉鞘顏色會變暗沉。以種子或分株繁殖。

It normally grows in sunny or partial sun environments and thrives vigorously in heat and high humidity. Mildly alkaline soils rich in organic matter, damp and well-drained preferred; sensitive to cold and drought. They grow slowly in Taiwan’s cold winter and the leaf sheath color would turn darker. Reproduced from seeds or ramets.

葉鞘顏色特殊，可作庭園景觀樹、大型盆栽，適合臺灣南部應用。種子幼苗可作小品盆栽，葉片可作切花。

Valued for the uniquely-colored leaf sheath, the plant is commonly grown as a garden ornament tree or a large potted plant, more suitable to grow in southern Taiwan. The seedlings can be planted in mini pots, and the blades can be used as cut flower materials
