馬蹄花屬常綠灌木或小喬木，臺灣恆春及蘭嶼地區原生，菲律賓亦為原產地。枝光滑無毛。對生長橢圓形至倒卵形葉。頂生繖房花序，花白色有淡香味，花期3~6月。果實由2枚卵形的彎曲蓇葖果所組成，常雙生；成熟時為橘紅色，會開裂露出種子。

An evergreen shrub or small tree in the genus Tabernaemontana, native to Hengchun, Lanyu in Taiwan, and the Philippines. Branches smooth and glabrous. Opposite leaves shaped oval to obovate. Umbels terminal, flowers white, lightly fragrant, flowering from March to June. The fruit consists of two oval curved follicles, often in pairs of two; orange-red when ripe, dehiscing to reveal seeds.

喜全日照或半日照溫暖環境，高濕度可以促進生長，以富含有機質的壤土為佳，排水需良好。以種子繁殖為主，亦可扦插繁殖。

The plant normally grows in warm environments with full or partial sunlight and thrives vigorously in highly humid conditions; well-drained loam rich in organic matter is preferred. Mainly propagated from seeds, less by cuttings.

可作庭園景觀樹、盆栽、綠籬、幼苗小品盆栽。全株可入藥。蘭嶼原住民作為驅魔避邪使用。

It can be grown as garden ornament trees, potted plants, hedges, and potted seedlings. The whole plant can be materials of medicine. The Lanyu aborigines use the plant to exorcise.
