山楝屬常綠喬木，臺灣原生，南亞、東南亞至澳洲亦有分佈。小枝光滑無毛，幼時帶紅褐色。互生奇數羽狀複葉，對生小葉5~7對。穗狀花序，花白色，花期6~7月。蒴果球形，果皮象牙白帶淺粉紅色。種子被紅色假種皮，種皮黑褐色。

An evergreen tree in the genus Aphanamixis, native to Taiwan, and also distributed in South and Southeast Asia, and Australia. Branchlets smooth and glabrous, reddish brown when young. Oddly pinnate compound leaves alternate with 5-7 pairs of opposite leaflets. Spikes, flowers white, flowering from June to July. Capsules spherical, pericarp ivory tinged light pink. Seeds covered with red aril, black-brown.

全日照溫暖環境，土壤以富含有機質之壤土為佳，排水需良好。以種子繁殖為主。

The plant normally grows in warm environments with full sun; the soil is preferably loam rich in organic matter, with good drainage. Mainly propagated from seeds.

可作庭園景觀樹、行道樹。熟果紅色具觀賞價值。種子可煉油供製肥皂及潤滑油。木材赤色，堅硬，紋理密緻，質均勻，可作建築、造船等用材。

Commonly grown as garden ornament trees and street trees. The red ripe fruits are highly ornamental. The seeds can be refined to make soap and lubricants. The hard and dense red wood is a great material for construction and shipbuilding.
