樟屬常綠喬木，原產東亞亞熱帶地區。枝、葉、木才有樟腦氣味。互生卵狀橢圓形葉。圓錐花序葉腋生，花白色或淺黃綠色，花瓣6枚。核果球形，成熟紫黑色。開花春季，結果夏、秋季。
