柿樹屬常綠灌木或小喬木，原產南亞、東南亞、臺灣至琉球濱海地區。樹皮黑色。互生倒卵形革質葉片，葉先端凹入。雌雄異株，雄花多朵簇生，雌花單生，皆開於葉腋。壺形花冠3裂。漿果橢圓形，成熟時黃橘色或紅色。開花冬至春季，結果夏季。

An evergreen shrub or small tree in the genus Diospyros, native to South Asia, Southeast Asia, Taiwan to the Ryukyu coastal area. Black bark. Opposite, obovate leathery leaves with concave in the apex. Dioecious, both are axillary; male flowers grow in clusters while female flowers grow alone. Pot-shaped corolla with 3 lobes. Berries are oval shaped and ripe orange or red. Flowering from winter to autumn and fruiting in summer.

全日照溫暖環境。具有耐旱性。每季施用一次長效性綜合肥料。萌芽力強，耐修剪，但因生長緩慢，通常只修剪徒長枝與樹冠內的交叉枝等不良枝。播種法繁殖。

Full-sun warm environment. Drought tolerant. Apply long-active compound fertilizers once every season. It has strong germination and resists to pruning, but grows slowly, so only remove defective branches such as water sprouts and crossing ones in the crown. Propagated by seeding.

原生於濱海地區，能耐風、耐旱適合做濱海地區景觀綠美化使用。單植、多株叢植或列植為綠籬都是普遍的應用方式。果實美觀，能吸引鳥類取食。在市場上常被叫做黑檀，因為心材黑色或有黑色紋路而著名。

Beautiful fruits attract birds to eat. It is often called ebony in the market for the black heartwood or black stripes.
