芒果屬常綠喬木,原產印度。互生橢圓形葉常聚生於枝端。圓錐花序自枝端伸出,花朵繁密,花分雌、雄與雙性花,黃色花瓣5枚。核果圓形、橢圓形、腎形;因品種不同,成熟果色綠、黃、橘、紫紅均有。開花冬至春季,結果期夏季。

An evergreen tree in the genus of Mangifera, native to India. The alternate elliptical leaves often grow in clusters at the end of branches. Panicles extend from the branches and develop dense flowers which are polygamous with five yellow petals. Drupes are round, oval, or kidney-shaped; mature fruits could be green, yellow, orange, and purple, depending on varieties. Flowering from winter to spring and fruiting in summer.

栽培 Cultivation

全日照溫暖環境。花芽分化需要乾燥刺激。開花需要蜜蜂或麗蠅授粉才容易結果。修剪以徒長枝與過密不良枝為主。幼果發育期與採果後各施用一次長效性綜合肥料。繁殖採用播種與嫁接法。

It favors full-sun and warm environment. It requires drought to induce flower bud differentiation. Pollination by bees or calliphorids is essential for producing fruits. Pruning mainly water sprouts and excessive diseased branches. Apply long-active compound fertilizers during young fruit stage and after harvesting. Propagated by seeding and grafting.

It is also widely used for making cakes and ice dishes for its aroma as well as moderate sweetness and sourness.
