鵝掌柴屬常綠灌木，原產新喀里多尼亞。互生圓形葉有掌狀深裂，裂片有鈍鋸齒，葉柄白色有褐色斑點。幼株葉片深褐色近黑色，植株日漸長大時的葉片變大、裂片變寬而且呈綠色，在戶外種植會更明顯。繖形花序自枝端伸出，花綠色微小，園藝栽培罕見開花。

An evergreen shrub in the genus Schefflera, native to New Caledonia. The alternate round leaves have deep palmate lobes with toothed edges. White petiole covered with brown spots. Foliage of saplings are dark brown and nearly black. As it grows, the foliage will become larger, and the lobes also get wider and turn green; these features will be more obvious if planted outdoors. Umbels protrude from the branches with green and tiny flowers. Horticultural cultivars rarely bloom.

全日照至半日照溫暖環境，幼株能耐陰，種於室內窗邊明亮處作為室內植物栽培。介質乾就澆水，嚴重缺水易落葉。每季施用一次長效性綜合肥料。繁殖使用扦插與空中壓條法。

full sun to partial shade, warm environment. Saplings are shade tolerant and suitable to plant in well-lit indoor locations or windows side as indoor plants. Water when medium soil gets dry or it will shed leaves if short of water. Apply long-active compound fertilizers once every season. Using cuttings and air layering to propagate.

細緻葉片像孔雀開屏，造型非常特殊。植株外型秀氣細緻，適合盆栽或單獨種植於庭園近處欣賞。由於葉片較為細碎且深色，擺放空間的背景不宜太陰暗，才能彰顯質感。

The plant produces delicate foliage resembling the shape of a flaunting peacock. Thanks to the exquisite and delicate look, it’s suitable for use as a potted plant in garden, convenient for people to appreciate. Considering the leaves are relatively smaller and darker, it’s advised to display in brighter background in order to highlight the delicate texture of it.
