原產於蘭嶼、綠島以及鄰近的菲律賓巴丹島等島嶼，生長在森林下或潮濕的岩石上。地上有粗壯的走莖，不規則橢圓形葉片表面光滑。雌雄異花，花白色至粉紅色。是蘭嶼原住民達悟族的重要食材，葉子可以入菜或水煮食用；葉柄生食酸甜可口，昔日常常被婦女、小孩摘來沾鹽，當作零嘴吃，現在還被開發為冷飲及冰沙，成為蘭嶼的特色飲品。

Native to islands such as Lanyu, Green Island and adjacent Bataan Island in the Philippines. Begonia fenicisMerr. grows in understories or on wet rocks and bears stout stems on the ground. The leaves are smooth and irregularly oval. Dioecious, flowers are white or pink. It is an important ingredient of the Yami people of Lanyu, the leaves can be fried or boiled while the petiole can be eaten raw with sweet and sour taste. In the old time, it was often picked by women and children to dip in salt and eat as a snack. Now it is developed as a cold drink and smoothies, a characteristic drink of Lanyu.

秋海棠屬多年生草本，原產蘭嶼、綠島以及菲律賓巴丹島、琉球等島嶼。有橫走地下莖。葉歪卵圓形，長8~10cm、寬6~10cm，不規則齒緣，葉面光滑。雌雄異花，花白色至粉紅色。

A perennial herb in the genus Begonia, native to Lanyu, Green Island, and the islands of Bataan in the Philippines and Ryukyu. Rhizomes spreading horizontally. Leaves crooked oval, 8-10cm long, 6-10cm wide, margin irregularly toothed, leaf surface smooth. Monoecious, flowers white to pink.

半日照溫暖環境，高濕度可以促進生長。夏天需遮陰不可曝曬。栽培介質需排水良好、富含有機質。每季施用一次長效性肥料。以扦插法繁殖。

The plant normally grows in warm environments with partial sunlight and thrives vigorously in highly humid conditions. It needs shaded from direct sun in summer and prefers well-drained soils rich in organic matter. Apply long-active fertilizer once a season. Propagated by cuttings.

葉片翠綠、花朵繁盛，是遮蔭處的優良地被植物。蘭嶼原住民摘採葉柄沾鹽生食，酸甜的口感可說是十分解渴的自然資源。

Prized for the green foliage and flourishing flowers, the plant is an excellent groundcover in the shade. People of Lanyu tribe pick fresh leaves and dip in salt to eat fresh; the leaves with sweet and sour taste are a natural resource to quench thirst.
