秋海棠屬多年生草本或半灌木，原產巴西。為直立型的秋海棠，株高15~60cm。互生不對稱卵形至橢圓形葉，先端銳尖，葉緣有波狀鋸齒。葉面銅綠，新葉及葉背紅褐色。聚繖花序，紅色花。

A perennial herb or semi-shrub in the genus Begonia, native to Brazil. Upright begonia, plant height 15-60cm. Alternate leaves asymmetrically ovate to elliptic, apex acute, leaf margins with wavy serrations. Leaf surface colored patina, while new leaves and leaf back reddish brown. Cymes, red flowers.

全日照或半日照溫暖環境，夏季烈日曝曬較容易生長不良。介質乾就須澆水，每季施用一次長效性肥料。過度長伸或老化的枝條可以剪除以促進萌生新枝。以扦插法繁殖。

The plant normally grows in warm environments with full or partial sunlight; direct sun exposure in summer is harmful to the growth. Water the plant regularly to keep the soil moist at all times; apply long-active fertilizer once a season. Prune overlong or aging branches to promote the emergence of new shoots. Propagated by cuttings.

生長強健的秋海棠，能適應戶外環境，常用於花壇、綠籬、灌叢或花台種植，以紅色的葉片與花朵為觀賞重點。在半日照的建築中庭或牆蔭處仍能生長，唯葉色較不鮮明且花色會變粉紅色。

The robust begonia can adapt to outdoor environments; often planted in flower beds, hedges, shrubs and flower stands. The red leaves and flowers are highly ornamental. They can survive in atriums or shades of buildings with partial sunlight, but lacking of sunlight will cause the leaf color less brighter and the red flowers fading to pink.
