秋海棠屬常綠草本或半灌木，原產巴西。直立莖健壯，最高可達3m，植株呈灌木狀。心形至圓形葉有缺刻，有長柄。聚繖花序頂生，花朵微小；雌花子房有翼狀突起，形似船帆；花白色，有香味。

An evergreen or semi-shrub in the genus Begonia, native to Brazil. Stem erect and robust, up to 3m in height, shrub-like. Leaves heart-shaped to round, lobed, with long stalk. Cymes terminal and flowers tiny; female flower ovary has wing-shaped protuberance resembling a sail; flower white and fragrant.

半日照溫暖環境，高濕度可以促進生長。夏天需遮蔭，不宜曝曬。栽培介質需排水良好且富含有機質。每季施用一次長效性肥料。以扦插繁殖為主。

The plant grows well in partial sun, warm and highly moist environment. Shade is required in summer from direct sun exposure. It prefers well-drained medium rich in organic matter. Apply long-active fertilizer once a season. Mainly propagated by cuttings.

秋海棠屬植物的葉片與植株型態千變萬化，部份種類花朵也相當可觀，具有很高的觀賞價值，是世界各地植物園與植物愛好者的收集品。中大型種可作為室內或戶外遮蔭處的造景使用；小型種作為盆栽收集欣賞或成為組合盆栽的材料。

Begonias are highly valued for their various foliage shapes and plant styles; some begonias produce lovely flowers with high ornamental value collected by botanical gardens and enthusiasts around the world. The plants of medium and large size are suitable for the use in shade landscape indoors or outdoors; smaller ones can be grown in individual pots or as material of assorted bonsai.
