老鸛草屬多年生草本，臺灣特有種。地下有短根莖；地上莖略呈偃臥狀，有毛。闊圓形或五角形葉，深5裂，有齒刻狀鋸齒。腋生單花；粉紅色花瓣5枚，倒卵形，先端圓，基部楔形。開花期夏季。蒴果，具長喙嘴狀突起。

A perennial herb in the genus Geranium, endemic to Taiwan. Rootstock short; stems slightly prostrate and hairy. Leaves broad or pentagonal, deeply 5-lobed, margin serrate-dentate. Flower solitary and axillary; 5 pink petals, obovate in shape, apex round, base wedge-shaped. Flowering in summer. Capsules with long beak-shaped protuberances.

全日照冷涼環境，多生長於裸露地或岩屑上，偶亦見於森林下，生長範圍廣闊。對土壤需求性高，以富含有機質之砂質壤土為佳。以扦插繁殖。

It grows well in full sun cold and cool environment, widely distributed and mostly grown on clearings and exposed screes, and occasionally in the forest floors. Highly demanding on the soil, preferably sandy loam rich in organic matter. Propagated by cuttings.

全草袪風除濕，解毒消腫。可治寒濕痹症、扭挫傷，癮疹、瘡癤癰腫、陰挺、子宮脫垂、外傷等。

The whole plant has medicinal properties such as dehumidification and detoxification; treating swelling, cold and dampness, sprains and contusions, rash, furuncle and sore, uterine prolapse, wounds and so on.
