原產廣東省陽春市的鵝凰嶂省級自然保護區，生長於溪谷兩側的沖積砂土上，是中國國家一級保護植物。樹冠形狀優美，革質葉片光滑油亮，花朵結構像茶花，但葉片與花朵在遠看時形似杜鵑，因此得名。開花期長，花朵紅豔碩大，由於能四季開花，更在夏季盛開，可以改變茶花以冬季為主的開花習性，在茶花育種上非常具有價值。

Native to the Ehuangzhang Provincial Nature Reserve in Yangchun City, Guangdong Province, Azalea Camellia is a national first-class protected plant in China. It grows on the alluvial sandy soil on both sides of valley. The crown shaped is elegant and the leathery leaves are smooth and glossy. The flower structure resembles camellia, but from a distance, the leaves and flowers are more like rhododendrons, hence the name. In addition to the long flowering period and stunningly large red flowers, it can flower throughout the year and fully bloom in summer. Azalea Camellia is of great importance in camellia breeding as it changes the flowering habits of camellia which originally blooms in winter.

適合全日照或半日照環境。喜好高溼度，介質喜偏向酸性壤土。繁殖可使用播種、扦插、嫁接與空中壓條法，一般使用嫁接法較多。

It grows well in full sun or partial sun environment; succeeds in high humidity and acidic-loam medium. Propagated by seeds, cuttings, grafting and aerial layering; grafting is mostly used.

為山茶科山茶屬常綠灌木。因具有四季開花與夏季盛開的特性，在茶花育種上有其重要性，可以改變茶花以冬季為主的開花習性。適合盆景或庭園內單植，可兼收觀葉與賞花的樂趣。

Suitable for the use as single plantation in pots or in garden to enjoy the foliage and flowers.
