嗩吶草屬多年生草本，分佈臺灣低至中海拔山區森林。具匍匐根狀莖。葉基生，具長柄，卵狀心形或三角形，長5~7cm，寬3~4cm，基部心形，先端銳尖至漸尖，不規則齒緣至小裂片狀，紙質；托葉褐色，乾膜質。總狀花序，花軸長20~30cm，密被褐色毛。花具短柄，柱頭2裂。常見於林下潮溼陰暗之岩石、土坡或溪流旁。

A perennial herb in the genus Mitella, distributed in the forests at low to medium elevations in Taiwan. Rhizomes prostrate. Leaves basal, long-stemmed, ovate heart-shaped or triangular, 5-7cm long, 3-4cm wide, heart-shaped at base, apex acute to acuminate, margin with irregular teeth or small lobes, papery; stipules brown, dry and membranous in texture. Racemes, flower axis 20 to 30cm long, with dense brown hair. Flowers with short pedicels, stigma bifid. It’s often found in wet, shady rocks, dirt slopes, or streams under the forests.

生長於山坡陰濕處或小山溝中，喜半遮陰潮濕環境。以種子或葉插繁殖。

It grows in the shady and wet areas of hillsides or small ravines, and prefers semi-shade and humid environment. Propagated by seeds or leaf cuttings.

春季開花時可觀察造型特殊的花朵與果實，外形如民間樂器「嗩吶」，因此被稱為嗩吶草。

The unique flowers and fruits are fun to watch when blooming in spring; because they resemble the Chinese musical instrument "Suona", the plant is also known as Suona grass.
