鳶尾屬多年生宿根性草本，臺灣特有種。根莖匍匐多節；叢生劍形葉左右二列互生，葉基具鞘，葉尖漸尖，上表面亮綠色，下表面粉白色。花序為圓錐花序，具苞片；花瓣白色，花瓣中肋呈黃色；花期3~5月。果為蒴果，長橢圓狀卵球形，有6稜，成熟時3瓣裂；種子黑褐色，梨形；果期6~8月。

A rhizomatous perennial herb in the genus Iris, endemic to Taiwan. The rhizome is prostrate and multi-noded; tufted sword-shaped leaves alternate, leaf base sheathed, apex acuminate, bright green on the upper surface, and pinkish white beneath. Panicles, with bracts; petals white, flower midribs tinged yellow; flowering from March to May. The fruit is a capsule, oblong-ovoid, 6-ribbed, 3-lobed when mature; seeds dark brown, pear-shaped; fruiting from June to August.

全日照或半日照環境，高濕度可以促進生長。適合中高海拔山區，臺灣平地燥熱會生長不良。種子或分株繁殖。

It favors full sun or partial sun environment; high humidity can promote the growth. Suitable to be grown in medium and high altitude mountainous areas but not in flat lands where are too hot and too dry for the plant to survive. Reproduced by seeds or ramets.

可作庭園地被植物、盆栽、水岸邊植物。切花材料。根莖可入藥

It can be cultivated as garden groundcover, potted plant, waterfront plant, and cut flower material. The rhizome can be used as medicine.
