秋海棠屬多年生草本，臺灣特有種。植株無毛或散生柔毛。莖粗壯，肉質，乾時具溝稜。單葉互生，具葉柄，呈歪卵形至圓形，葉基不等心形，葉尖銳形或漸尖，葉緣為齒牙緣；托葉卵形，漸尖。單性花，雌雄同株。聚繖花序，腋生；花淡粉紅色；花期6~10月。果為蒴果，具不等長3翅，背翅多凸起。種子細小，黑褐色。

A perennial herb in the genus Begonia, endemic to Taiwan. The whole P-plant glabrous or sparsely pilose. Stems stout, fleshy, and grooved when dry. Simple leaves alternate, with petiole, asymmetrically ovate to round, leaf base unequally heart-shaped, leaf apex acute or acuminate, leaf margin toothed; stipule ovate, acuminate. Unisexual flowers, monoecious. Cymes axillary; flowers pale pink; flowering from June to October. The fruit is a capsule with 3 wings of unequal length and dorsal wings raised. The seeds are tiny and dark brown.

喜半日照涼爽潮濕環境，天然生長在臺灣中海拔山區的林蔭下。栽培介質須富含有機質且兼具排水與保水性。種子或扦插繁殖。

It enjoys partial sun in a cool and humid environment, and naturally grows in the shade of Taiwan's mid-altitude mountains. Soils rich in organic matter, with good drainage and water retention are preferable. Seed or cutting propagation.

葉片綠意盎然，粉紅花朵可愛，可作遮蔭處的庭園地被植物或室內盆栽。

Valued for the green foliage and the lovely pink flowers, the plant is often grown as groundcover in garden shades or as an indoor pot.
