椆屬常綠喬木，臺灣原生，中國大陸南方各省亦有分佈。小枝細長，帶暗褐色，幼時有紫色或黃色曲柔毛。葉互生，大多叢生於枝條先端，倒卵狀長橢圓形至倒披針形，革質，上半部疏鋸齒緣，幼時葉表裡兩面具有黃色曲柔毛，老時則光滑無毛。雄花序細長，頂生於枝條先端的葉腋，花期4~5月。殼斗半球形或杯形，包被堅果達1/2至2/3，密生黃褐色絨毛，內面中部以下的毛為深褐色，環帶全緣；堅果的果臍略突起。

An evergreen tree in the genus Cyclobalanopsis, native to Taiwan and also distributed in southern China. Branchlets long and slender, dark brown, covered by purple or yellow curly soft pilose when young. Leaves alternate, mostly tufted at the apex of the branch, obovate oblong to oblanceolate, leathery, the upper part with sparse serrated margins. Leaflets have yellow curly pilose on both surfaces, and turning smooth and glabrous with age. Male inflorescences slender, axillary of the apex of the branches, flowering from April to May. Cupule hemispherical or cup-shaped, wrapping a half or more of an acorn and filled with yellow-brown fluff, inner trichomes dark brown, and the ring entire margined; acorn hilum slightly protruding.

喜強日照，以富含有機質排水良好的土壤為佳。種子繁殖。

The plant prefers strong direct sun and well-drained soils rich in organic matters. Reproduced by seeds.

可作庭園景觀樹。心材紅褐色，可供做農具柄、建築、器具等。果及殼斗可做裝飾品。

Suitable to be grown as garden landscape tree. The reddish-brown heartwood can make farming tool handles, buildings, utensils, etc. The fruits and cupules can be used as decorative objects.
