櫟屬常綠或落葉喬木，原產中國華中、華南各省以及韓國、日本、臺灣等地。樹皮灰黑色。葉互生，倒卵狀長橢圓形或長橢圓形，革質，葉面光亮，葉背有白毛。雌雄異花，花綠色。果序可著果2~3個，果熟深綠色或褐色。開花期初夏，結果期秋季。

An evergreen or deciduous tree in the genus Quercus, native to central and southern China, South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan. Bark gray-black. Leaves alternate, obovate oblong or oblong, leathery, glossy, with white fluff on the underside. Dioecious, flowers green. Each infructescence produces 2-3 acorns ripe green or brown. Flowering in early summer, and fruiting in autumn.

全日照溫暖至冷涼環境。土壤忌積水，務求排水良好。每年春、夏季各施一次長效性肥料。萌芽力強，耐修剪，甚至可密植修剪成高籬。繁殖採用播種法，於冬春季施行。

Full sun, warm to cold environment is preferred. Avoid water-logging in the soil to ensure good drainage. Long-active fertilizers are applied once each in spring and summer. Featured with strong germination and pruning tolerance, they are suitable to be densely planted and trimmed into high hedges. Propagated by seeds in winter and spring.

葉片光潔、樹姿優美，適合作為行道樹或公園、庭園遮蔭樹。果實富含澱粉、蛋白質等營養，是大型鳥類、松鼠、鼯鼠與臺灣黑熊等動物的食糧。果實造型可愛，昔時兒童撿拾作為陀螺童玩。

Valued for the glossy leaves and graceful tree shape, the plants can be street trees, garden trees, or shade trees in courtyards. Rich in nutrients such as starch and protein, the acorns are a great food source for large birds, squirrels, moles, and Taiwan Black Bear etc. The acorn is cute in shape and used to be picked by children as a whipping top in the old days.
