石櫟屬常綠喬木，臺灣特有種。幹皮灰褐色，有縱向裂縫；小枝纖細，有明顯的白色皮孔。葉長橢圓形，革質油亮，上半部具粗齒，先端漸尖至尾狀，基部楔形至鈍，基部常有星狀毛，背面中肋及側脈交點處有毛叢。直立穗狀花序，雌雄花常同花序；雄花在上，雌花在下。花白色，單生或3至多朵簇生。花期3~7月。殼斗盤形或淺碟形，包被堅果不及一半，略帶有毛茸或光滑無毛；堅果壓縮狀球形或橢圓形，先端常有小突尖，基部圓鈍而截斷狀。果熟期8~10月。

An evergreen tree of the genus Lithocarpus, endemic to Taiwan. Bark gray-brown, vertically fissured; branchlets slender with obvious white lenticels. Leaves oblong, leathery and glossy, with obtuse teeth at the front half, apex acuminate to tail-like, base cuneate to blunt, often covered with stellate hairs and tufts of hair grown at the intersection of the midribs and lateral veins on the underside. Spikes erect, mostly hermaphrodite; male flowers apical, female flowers borne on basal part of the inflorescence. Flowers white, solitary or 3 to more in a cluster, blooming from March to July. Cupule discoidal or saucer-shaped, less than half of the acorns covered with hard shell, slightly furry or smooth and glabrous; acorn oblate spherical or elliptic, often with a small protrusion at the apex, and the base is obtuse and truncated. Acorns mature from August to October.

喜全日照，土壤以富含有機質之壤土為佳，排水需良好。以種子繁殖為主。

The plants prefer full sun and loams with rich organic matter, and good drainage. Propagated by seed.

可做庭園景觀樹、行道樹。果可食，松鼠常視為主食。堅果可作飾品。木材供薪炭。

Suitable for the use as garden landscape trees and street trees. Fruits are edible, main food to squirrels, also can be made as accessories. The wood is material of charcoal.
