原產於蘭嶼、綠島、菲律賓。常綠喬木，小枝上葉痕明顯，冠幅大而圓潤。單葉互生，前端尖，基部圓，多數集中在枝條頂端，以螺旋狀排列生長，葉片的表面油亮鮮綠，在陽光下會閃閃發光。圓錐花序，腋生；兩性或單性花，花沒有花瓣，由呈黃綠色的萼片組成鐘形的花冠狀，兩性花比雄性花略為大。蓇葖果鐮刀狀肥厚，成熟時由綠轉紅，內有1~2枚的種子；種子橢圓形。

Native to Orchid Island, Green Island and the Philippines. The plant is an evergreen tree with distinctive leaf marks on the branchlets, and the crown is large and rounded. Leaves alternate, leaf tip acute and base round; most aggregated at the top of branches in a spiral arrangement. The blade surface is bright green and dazzling under the sunlight. Panicles, axillary; bisexual or unisexual, flowers without petals, bell-shaped corolla composed of yellow-green bracts, bisexual flowers slightly larger than male flowers. The fruit is a fat and sickle-shaped follicle, mature from green to red, containing 1 or 2 oval seeds.

陽性樹種，喜全日照，土壤以富含有機質之壤土為佳，排水需良好。以種子繁殖為主。
