臺灣特有種，僅產於臺灣蘭嶼。常綠小喬木，莖及枝條多為光滑無毛，具有多數分枝，小枝直立或斜上昇。葉橢圓形至長橢圓形，紙質或厚紙質，全緣，表面呈有光澤綠色，背面淡綠色，兩面皆光滑無毛。花小形，綠色或黃綠色，單性，雄花3~5枚呈聚繖花序，腋生。果實為球形漿果，光滑無毛，熟時由黃綠轉為紫黑色，宿存萼片卵形；種子暗褐色，扁球形。

Endemic to Taiwan and only grown in Orchid Island. Evergreen small trees, stems and branches are usually smooth and hairless, with dense diverging branches.Branchlets erect or obliquely rising. Leaves elliptic to oblong, papery or thickly papery, entire, leaf surface shiny green, pale green on the back, smooth and hairless on both sides. Flowers small, green or yellow-green, unisexual, 3 to 5 male flowers in cymes, axillary. The fruit is a spherical berry, smooth and hairless, and from yellow-green to purple-black when mature. Persistent bracts ovate; seeds dark brown and oblate.

喜全日照或半日照，土壤以富含有機質之壤土為佳，排水需良好。耐風、耐旱。以種子繁殖為主。

The plant enjoys full sun or half sun, rich organic loam and good drainage. Tolerant to wind and drought. Mainly seed reproduction.

可作庭園景觀樹、盆景等。種子播種可做小品盆栽(種子小森林)。木材質地密緻堅實，紋理有光澤，是上等木材原料，可製農具、印材、手杖或裝飾品，尤適於作家屋之圓柱。

It can be a landscape tree, bonsai or as a small seed bonsai (small forest of seeds). The timber is dense and solid, and glossy-grained, one of the finest wood materials which can be made into agricultural tools, printing materials, walking sticks or decorations, especially suitable for the use as round columns of houses.
