柃木屬常綠灌木，原產中國華南、日本、韓國及臺灣北部濱海地區。樹皮黑褐色，嫩枝有毛。二列互生倒卵形或披針形革質葉，葉緣有鋸齒。花2~3朵腋生，白色花瓣5枚。黑色果實球形。開花冬至春季，結果春至夏季。

An evergreen shrub in the genus Eurya, native to South China, Japan, South Korea and the littoral area of northern Taiwan. The bark is dark brown with hairy shoots. Two rows of alternate obovate or lanceolate leathery blades with serrated margins. Two to three axillary flowers in a cluster; 5 white petals. Black fruit spherical. Flowering from winter to spring and fruiting from spring to summer.

全日照溫暖環境，植株具耐旱性，根部忌積水潮濕，適合砂質壤土或壤土混合培養土種植。每季施用一次長效性肥料，修剪以細弱枯枝與過密枝為主。繁殖使用播種與扦插法。

Full-sun and warm environment. Drought tolerant. Avoiding waterlogged in the root area. Enjoy growing in sandy loam or mix potting soil. Applying long-active fertilizers once every season. Trimming off diseased, dead and excessive branches. Using seeding and cuttings to propagate.

葉色墨綠油亮，枝葉緻密、天然樹形優美，適合作為庭園整形樹或列植為綠籬。盆景界亦常作為材料，修剪雕塑為優良景美的作品。花朵可吸引昆蟲，果實可吸引鳥類食用，具有生態意義。

It could be a great topiary tree in gardens or a hedgerow for the blackish green and glossy foliage, dense crown and esthetic tree shape. In bonsai market, it’s commonly trimmed and sculpted into various beautiful shapes. Flowers attract insects and fruits allure birds, which contributes significantly to the ecosystem.
