杜鵑屬常綠灌木，原產臺灣新北市北勢溪沿岸石壁上。枝葉鬆散，嫩枝、葉片有深褐色毛。互生披針形葉。枝端開花1~3朵，漏斗形花冠5裂，花色粉紫，上裂片有紫色斑點。開花春季。

An evergreen shrub of the genus Rhododendron, native to the rockslide along the Beishui River in New Taipei City, Taiwan. The crown is structured loosely. New shoots and foliage are covered by dark brown hairs. Alternate lanceolate leaves. One to three pinkish purple flowers are borne on the end of branch. Funnel-shaped corolla 5-lobed; the upper lobes with purple spots. Flowering in spring.

全日照溫暖環境，喜好酸性介質。春至夏季施用1~2次長效性綜合肥料。介質乾燥就澆水。開花後對新枝進行摘心，修除徒長枝、交叉枝等不良枝。入夏後不宜再進行修剪，以免修除花芽。繁殖使用扦插法。

Full-sun warm environment and acidic medium preferred. Apply long-active compound fertilizers once or twice from spring to summer. Water when the medium is dried. After flowering stage, pinch off the top new shoots and prune water sprouts and crossing branches. Don’t prune in summer as you may accidentally remove flower buds. Propagated by cuttings.

棲地因興建翡翠水庫，一度在野外消失。經相關單位進行復育，已獲得良好成效。種植於校園中具有生態保育的教學意義。植株細瘦直挺，花色清新優雅，可單植或多株密植為灌叢以增加豐盛度，或列植為綠籬使用。

The natural habitat of the plant had once disappeared because of construction of Taipei Feitsui Reservoir. Good results have been accomplished through restoration by relevant authorities. The plant is grown in campus as educational material to spread out the importance of ecological conservation. Valued for its slim and straight trunk as well as the fresh and elegant flower coloration, the plant is suitable for single or clustered plantation as shrubs to increase the abundance, or row planting as green hedgerows.
