新木薑子屬常綠喬木，原產臺灣的綠島、蘭嶼以及琉球群島等地。當年生枝條、頂芽鱗片、葉柄、新葉、葉背、苞片、花梗等處滿有金黃或黃褐色柔毛。互生革質葉，卵圓或橢圓狀披針型。繖形花序簇生於葉腋，雌雄異花。花淡黃色，橢圓形果實成熟橘紅色或紅色。開花冬季，果期夏季。

An evergreen tree in the genus Neolitsea, native to Taiwan's Green Island, Lanyu and the Ryukyu Islands. An annual plant. The branches, apical bud scales, petioles, new leaves, blade backs, bracts, and pedicels are covered with golden or yellowish soft hair. Alternate leathery leaves are oval or elliptical lanceolate in shape. Umbellate clusters emerge in leaf axils and deciduous. Flowers are pale yellow and oval fruits are ripe orange or red. Flowering in winter and fruiting in summer.

全日照溫暖環境，春季新芽萌發時不可缺水。每季施用一次長效性肥料。冬季枝端休眠芽不應剪除，以免影響來春新芽萌發。繁殖採用播種法或扦插法。

Full-sun and warm environment. Enough supply of water is critical for shoots sprouting in spring. Apply long-active fertilizers once every season. Winter dormant buds should not be cut off, so as not to affect the germination of spring buds. Propagation is carried out by seeding or cuttings.

春季新葉與葉背的絨毛，在陽光照射下燦爛耀眼，具有很高的觀賞價值。樹長高時較不易欣賞新葉，因此適合矮化整形作為灌木，可修剪單株整形直接種於庭院，或以大盆缽種植欣賞。

Villi on the new leaves’ front and back dazzle under the sunlight in spring, which is highly ornamental. When the tree grows taller and taller, it’s hard for people to enjoy the beautiful new leaves. So, it’s advised to keep it short by pruning as shrubs, a single topiary tree in a garden, or directly planted in a large pot.
