臺灣原生常綠灌木或小喬木。小枝被短柔毛。葉軟革質，倒卵形或長橢圓形，先端圓，細圓齒緣，光滑。聚繖花序，花小白色，花期4~5月。核果球形，熟時由綠轉為紫黑色，果期8~12月。

Taiwan native evergreen shrub or small tree with pubescent branchlets. The leaves are soft, leathery, obovate or oblong, round apex, serrated and glossy. Cyme, flowers small and white, flowering from April to May. The drupe is spherical and turns from green to purple-black when mature, fruiting from August to December.

全日照溫暖環境，耐風、耐曬。生育適溫18~30℃。栽培以富含有機質之砂質壤土為佳，全日照或半日照。種子繁殖或扦插繁殖。

Full-sun and warm environments, resistant to wind and sun exposure. Adequate temperature for growth is 18~30 °C. Better to cultivate in sandy loam with rich organic matter, full sun or partial sun. Propagated by seeding or cutting.

枝葉細密耐修剪，萌芽力強，適合修剪為圓形、錐形的整型樹供庭園設計使用。也適合列植為綠籬，具有良好的阻隔效果。盆景界利用葉片細緻的優點，進行枝條的彎折塑型，成為優良的盆景材料。

The branches and leaves are dense enough to tolerate pruning. With high potential of germination, it can be trimmed into round and conical topiary trees for garden landscape design, or planting as a hedgerow with good barrier effect. Bonsai enthusiasts also make use of the exquisite leaves by bending the branches and shaping into an artistic bonsai.
